Sufentanil Models

It would make sense to use the same PK model for the same drug in different commercially available TCI systems. Although there seemed to be some agreement that the PK model published by Gepts is reasonable, two companies decided to use different link models.

Cardinal Health (Alaris) and Fresenius-Kabi both use the pharmacokinetic model published by Gepts et al.1) However, the Alaris pumps use a fixed t_{peak} = 5.6 min2) and the Fresenius-Kabi pumps use a fixed k_{e0} = 0.112 min^{-1}.

This results particularly in different loading doses when the concentration is increased. There might be good arguments for one or the other implementation. We would like to start a discussion on that.(Maybe with a final concensus)
